Age and dementia friendly street walking tour.
In 2015 Moonee Valley City Council, realising that they had a lot of older people in their local area staying put, embarked on a project to make their local neighbourhood centres more age and dementia friendly. Union Road, Ascot Vale was chosen as the pilot and, since then, has been gradually upgraded to align with their ‘Age and dementia friendly streetscapes toolkit’ (another presentation at the conference). As it happens, Union Road is directly opposite the Conference venue and provides participants for this tour with a unique opportunity to experience firsthand what an age and dementia friendly designed streetscape might be like. We will walk from the venue up Union Street (about 500m), stopping along the way to discuss what has been done. We hope to have one of the resident reference group along and someone from the Council. Tour limited to 20 people max.
